Já podem estender a passadeira vermelha. A MTV anunciou as nomeações para os MTV VMAs 2020 com Lady Gaga e Ariana Grande (vencedora do prémio “Artista do Ano”, em 2019) no topo da lista dos mais nomeados. As cantoras contam com nove indicações cada – ambas partilham a nomeação para “Vídeo do Ano” com “Rain On Me”.

Seguem-se The Weeknd e Billie Eilish com seis nomeações cada, incluindo “Vídeo do Ano” para “Blinding Lights” e “everyting i wanted”, respetivamente. “The Man” de Taylor Swift alcançou também a categoria principal da premiação. A artista conta com mais quatro nomeações.Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles e Doja Cat estão também entre os nomeados deste ano.

Devido à pandemia pelo novo coronavírus, este ano, os MTV VMAs apresentam duas novas categorias – “Melhor Videclipe Musical Feito em Casa” e “Melhor Performance da Quarentena”. Para além disso, A MTV traz de volta a “Melhor Vídeo Alternativo” após ausência de mais de 20 anos.

As nomeações foram reveladas hoje através da nova ferramenta do Twitter – voice tweets. Os fãs podem votar nas 15 categorias no site da premiação até ao dia 23 de agosto.

Os VMAs de 2020 acontecem a 30 de agosto e serão transmitidos a partir do Barclays Center, em Nova Iorque, pela primeira vez desde 2013. Mas não estarão confinados à grande arena: a premiação vai contar com performances de vários locais emblemáticos de Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx e Staten Island.
